Help Friends of Blackwater clean up the coke ovens located along the Blackwater Canyon Rail Trail on Saturday, August 24th. The coke ovens, as well as the interpretive signs and benches nearby, have become overgrown with vegetation and we need to get them cleared off so that visitors can learn about these historic resources.
Meet at the Friends of Blackwater office (571 Douglas Road, Thomas WV) at 9 a.m. to get started. We will provide some tools and gloves, but you should bring water and whatever other gear you need to be comfortable. Additional tools such as weed eaters, clippers, etc. would be helpful to bring with you as well. We plan to finish up around noon, but if you need to leave earlier that is fine.
