Friends of Blackwater is excited to continue work on Canyon Rim and Limerock Trails this summer/fall thanks to grants from the WVDOT and the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance. These trails are on the Monongahela National Forest near the Olsen Fire Tower and take hikers through hemlock forests, mountain laurel groves, past rocky outcroppings looking out over the Canyon, and over Big Run creek.
In 2017, Friends of Blackwater started work on the Canyon Rim Trail and Limerock Trails, along the rim of the Blackwater Canyon. Our enthusiastic crew completed a lot of turnpiking and drainage work, but they were unable to complete the project. Now, we’ll be working with Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC) to hire a 6-person crew of AmeriCorps volunteers for 8 weeks this summer and fall to finish the work. When they finish, there will be no more mucking through 6 inches of mud!
ACC is hiring a trail crew for this work and since they will be working in the same area for the position dates, we are hoping to recruit some Tucker County locals! Do you know anyone who might be interested? Maybe a recent high school or college graduate who loves the outdoors and is looking to add to their resume? Learn more and apply for the Blackwater trail crew here!
