A new grant from the WVDOT to support the Blackwater River Loop Trail was announced on Monday!
These WVDOT Recreational Trails Program funds, totaling $125,000, will fund trail surface improvements, the design and construction of trailheads in Davis City Park, Blackwater Falls State Park and along the portion of the Blackwater River Loop Trail that lies within the Monongahela National Forest. Trailheads will be located at what are projected to be high trafficked portions of the Blackwater Loop River Trail. Trailheads will be outfitted with a kiosk, bike pumps, seating, and educational material for Loop Trail, Rail Trail, and Blackwater Falls State Park visitors to utilize. Funds will also be used to support trail improvement, both along the main 8 miles of the Blackwater Loop Trail and along significant trail spurs like the Fansler Grade, taking trail users to the historic Davis Coal and Coke Engineering Building and the Buxton and Landstreet gallery, formerly the Company Store.
