Our Organization

Friends of Blackwater is a non-profit conservation organization which supports the West Virginia Allegheny Highlands Climate Change Impacts Initiative, The J.R. Clifford Project, the North Fork Watershed Project and the Save Our Squirrel Campaign.

Our Staff


Judy Rodd

Executive Director

Judy Rodd is our executive director, and has run Friends of Blackwater since 2000. She has an M.S. in Recreation and Parks from West Virginia University, and has been working as an environmental educator and advocate since 1985. As well as being the director, Judy handles much of the grants and fundraising.

Emily Cornell

Watershed Projects Manager

Emmie Cornell is Friends of Blackwater Watershed Projects Manager. She has a B.S. in biology from Berry College. She has a background in environmental education, sustainability and watershed mitigation.


Sean Coffers

Executive Assistant/Outreach Staffer

Sean Coffers is Friends of Blackwater Executive Assistant/Outreach Staffer. He recently moved back to his home state of West Virginia after several years in New York. He has a background in construction and sustainability.


John Brown

Technical Consultant (part-time)

John Brown is Friends of Blackwater’s technical consultant. He has run his own computer business and has worked with non-profits across West Virginia. When not helping Friends of Blackwater, he teaches middle school science.

Logan Thorne, climate change consultant

Logan Thorne

Climate Consultant (part-time)

As we grow our climate programs, Logan will be heading up the Morgantown office, organizing public events, and giving a statewide perspective on climate issues.
